My roommates and I go to the gym everyday, starting our work-out on the treadmill. We spend a minimum of 30mins running or walking on an incline. This part of our day is spent staring at a TV we can’t hear, the treadmill screen, or the unsightly ivory brick wall in front of the machine. Here is the view from our fabulous treadmills:
While running I remembered an ad I saw while at a Buffalo Bills football game. Before getting to our tailgating spot we waited in traffic for what felt like forever. We remained occupied by a low plane that continuously flew in circles, trailing behind it a GEICO banner. It was positioned in front of hundreds of people who had nothing else to do but check out what was flying in front of them. Brilliant. Furthermore, I am still thinking about this ad weeks later.
Just like football fans stuck in traffic, health junkies like us have nothing to concentrate on other than our workout music mixes while we pound away on the machines. We literally stare at the wall pictured above; especially if we are having an unlucky day and get stuck on one of the treadmills unable to see the TVs.
This presents a marketer’s dream/gold mine. Why in my past four years at college there has never once been a poster on this wall baffles me. We should place signs that promote college theater performances, local town events, sports games, nightly bar specials, greek life, charity events, school clubs, store sales, credit cards, etc. People would practically memorize the ads from reading them over and over while working-out everyday.
I plan on making this “billboard” a reality that entertains runners all across SUNY Geneseo’s campus. Inquiring with the Workout Center’s management tomorrow afternoon is extremely high on my priority list!
