People Can’t Live Without It!

I am back to the idea of Branding… surprise! But seriously… it is so important and also one of the hardest things to really master.

Recently I sent out a little poll: LADIES!! What are three beauty products you cannot live without??

My original intention was to build a story around the classic idea of “If you were on a deserted island, what would you take with you?”

My idea quickly took a more complicated twist.

Eyesicles Vanilla

For the first response I received the straight answer of, “mascara, lotion and chapstick.” My next response was not as easy to digest, “Straight Sexy Hair Anti-Frizz spray, Sephora Brand Mineral Bronzer, & Mary Kay Eyesicles Eyecolor (in vanilla!).”

Woahhh- a little specific? Turns out, not really…

Other responses were a mixture between exclusive brand products and just general items.

Would your answer be, “blush, bronzer and nail polish,” or would it be, “L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Crème, Sephora Liquid Eyeliner in black, and Smith’s Rosebud Salve?”

The most popular products from my poll were Nars Bronzer and Burt’s Bees Chapstick. How do these companies capture so many customers who are 100% loyal to their products?

Nars Bronzer
Burt's Bees

Overall, most people had certain products that they couldn’t live without. I started to wonder if these products really had superior quality, or if their advertisements simply ruled Queen over others.

Personally, it’s Loreal Voluminous Mascara, Ponds Cold Cream, and Bare Minerals Foundation (based on quality of product). But how did I hear about them in the first place? Advertisements & word of mouth…

It’s the Circle of Life- Aka: Brand Marketing!

What Brand Would You Be?

Lately my brain has been running wild with the concept of branding, and Halloween did not ease my interest!

Along with all the hippies and Indians many people dressed up as a product or character from a company’s commercial. I saw a Cheerios Box, Absolute Vodka bottles, Twister, Flo from the Progressive commercials, a Geico Caveman, and even the Oxy-Clean Spokesman. Not only did they dress up as a product, they repeated popular tag-lines all night to remain “in character”!

Twister Girls!

How do you brand your business so well that people actually want to BE you?

These costumes were recognized by everyone and great conversation starters. Halloween is an example of Viral marketing at its best!

Next year it might be worth a company’s budget to hire individuals to dress up as their product/character and go to parties. Not a bad idea, eh?
